Yes, I realize it is still winter, but it has been such a rough winter. I’ve seen more snow in the last few months than I’ve seen in my entire life! I feel like I made the best of it, and actually learned how to relax during my enforced inactivity on those snowy weekends. But yesterday I heard one of my most favorite sounds ever: peepers! The little frogs that sing out with such gusto in early spring seemed to all come alive at once in the warming sun. I was walking to my car at lunchtime when I was stopped in my tracks by the symphony of peeps. I had to close my eyes and bask in the swelling sound, the warm sunlight and soft breeze. Just for a moment, I was simply there, my usually racing thoughts quelled. I was present, and all was right with the world. I eventually had to get on with the day: sick dog, coaching meetings, team events. But I was able to carry that moment of peace and joy with me through the entire rest of the day. Amazing how one little incident can recharge your batteries for hours!
Today, I’m going to be aware of those moments, and latch on to them as soon as they appear. It will be another warm day, so chances are I’ll be able to enjoy the peepers show once again!
