I picked up my Chihuahua this morning, and she was so cute that I started singing to her. Immediately, my two Corgis came running into the room, looking to be petted. How interesting! An hour later or so, I tried it again, and sure enough, as soon as I started singing, the other two dogs ran over to be petted. Now, you could say that I’ve trained them over the years to come when I sing, but I don’t sing very often. I only sing when I’m particularly happy and moved by something to sing. Thinking about it, I realized that when I’m working on something that I really enjoy, all three dogs will come and lie down beside my chair.

This made me think about how if I get annoyed with something, my dogs run from the room. I never hit my dogs, and seldom even yell at them. Why would they run from the room when I start getting annoyed, even if I don’t speak? How do they even know I’m annoyed, when I’m not even paying attention to them at the time?

It occurs to me that, my dogs being sensitive little things, they can detect my feelings. And this leads me to think that I am projecting my feelings, even when I don’t speak (or sing!). Imagine your feelings like an aura or light around you, emanating from you at all times. When you walk into a room feeling great, do people’s faces light up? Conversely, when you come into a room in a thunderous mood, do people shut down? This has more to do with our energy than the look on our faces or the words we say, even how we say them.

Now, think about this. If we are all emanating our feelings into the world, billions of us, what is that doing to all of us? What is it doing to the world? If everyone is feeling scared, or angry or worried or anxious, that is a lot of negative energy polluting the world. And, according to recent studies in the field of Positive Psychology, you need 3 positive experiences for every negative one just to maintain a neutral state of being!

What does this all mean? Well, we owe it to the world to start flexing our Positivity muscles! We don’t have the luxury of miring ourselves in negativity. Start tuning out the sensationalistic news shows and violent TV shows. Start practicing random acts of kindness, and start paying attention to all that is right in your world. The more people we can get to increase their positivity, the greater the impact on the world!

Well, that’s a pretty macro mission to get out of singing to my dog, but there you have it!
